Mimurotoji Hydrangea Garden

Mimurotoji Hydrangea Garden

Hello everyone,

This is Keko from the online staff.

With the onset of the humid rainy season, I'd like to introduce you to a delightful escape that promises to lift your spirits amidst the downpours: the enchanting hydrangea garden nestled within the grounds of Mimurotoji Temple in Uji.

As we welcome the month of June, it's impossible not to reminisce about the nostalgia-inducing beauty of hydrangeas.

I often find myself transported back to cherished memories of my grandparents' home, where these magnificent blooms graced the garden with their vibrant hues.

Little did I know that the hydrangea garden at Mimurotoji Temple would far surpass any expectations I had.

Yorakuen, a sprawling expanse covering approximately 5,000 tsubo, serves as the canvas for a breathtaking tapestry of nature's finest creations. Here, amidst the towering cedar trees, an astonishing array of around 20,000 hydrangeas bursts into bloom, transforming the landscape into a vision of unparalleled beauty.

Wandering through the garden, one is greeted by a kaleidoscope of colors, ranging from delicate shades of light blue to striking hues of vivid pink.

Each variety of hydrangea, whether it be the classic Western hydrangeas or the elegant oak leaf hydrangeas, contributes to the symphony of colors that dance before your eyes.

Among the myriad of blooms, the "Shichidanka" stands out as a true marvel. This elusive variety boasts seven-tiered flowers that seem to shimmer like stars in the night sky.

The sharp sepals overlap in a mesmerizing display, captivating all who are fortunate enough to behold their splendor.

And then, there's the heart-shaped hydrangea, a true treasure that captures the imagination of visitors year after year. Tucked away amidst the foliage, discovering this rare gem feels like stumbling upon a hidden secret—a moment of pure joy and wonder.

So, if you find yourself in Uji, I implore you to carve out some time to explore the wonders of Mimurotoji Temple and its magnificent hydrangea garden.

Trust me when I say, it's an experience that will leave an indelible mark on your heart and soul.
