Hello everyone, I'm Keko, one of the online staff members.
As September approaches, one of the most heartwarming days in Japan is just around the corner—Keirō no Hi, or Respect for the Aged Day. This year, it falls on Monday, September 16th. It’s a special time to express our gratitude and appreciation for the elderly, honoring their contributions to family and society.
In Japan, the elderly are cherished not only for their wisdom and life experience but also for the important role they play in maintaining cultural traditions. On this day, families come together to celebrate, often visiting their grandparents, preparing special meals, or offering small tokens of appreciation.
While gifts like flowers or sweets are common, a cup of finely brewed Japanese tea is a meaningful way to share a moment of peace and reflection with the elderly. For me, as someone who loves tea, it’s a perfect opportunity to select a soothing and fragrant tea that embodies care and tradition.
For this year’s celebration, I’m thinking of preparing a cup of Gyokuro—a premium, umami-rich tea that’s both gentle and refined. It’s the kind of tea that encourages calm conversation, an ideal way to show respect and gratitude to the older generation.
How about sharing a cup of tea with your loved ones this Respect for the Aged Day? It could be a simple yet heartfelt way to express your appreciation.
Wishing you all a peaceful and reflective Keirō no Hi.
