A New Form, Carrying Forward the Noren
Hello everyone 😊
This is Keko from the online team.
Today, our Nakamura Tokichi Kyoto Store has reopened with a refreshed new look.
Since its opening in 2008,
this store has welcomed countless visitors at Kyoto Station.
At the entrance, a noren curtain has quietly hung for many years—
greeting each guest as they arrived,
and seeing them off as they left.
It has stood there as the face of the store,
holding within it the memories of many moments.
With this renewal,
the noren has completed its role.
But we did not want to simply let it go.
The time it has witnessed.
The presence of the people who passed through.
The atmosphere it has quietly absorbed over the years.

We wanted to carry all of this forward,
in a new form.
And so, the noren has been reborn
as bags and drawstring pouches.

Each piece is unique—
no two are exactly the same.
The texture of the fabric,
the subtle variations in color,
and even the traces of its past use
all reflect the time this noren has lived.

No longer at the entrance of the store,
these pieces will now become part of your everyday life.
Carried, used, and lived with—
they will begin to gather new stories of their own.
These items are available in limited quantities.
We hope you can take home not just an object,
but a piece of the time this noren has held.
Alongside the renewed Kyoto Store,
we continue to cherish both the past and the future.
And we look forward to welcoming you.
