Uji-Inspired Design at Nakamura Tokichi

Hello everyone 😊
This is Keko from the online team.

When you step into the newly renewed Nakamura Tokichi Kyoto Store,
the first thing we hope you will notice is the difference in the air.

Although it is located within the bustling Kyoto Station,
the space feels calm, with a slightly slower sense of time.

With this renewal, we designed the entire space to reflect the scenery and passage of time in Uji.

The linear lighting that stretches across the ceiling is inspired by the flowing Uji River.
Like water that moves steadily without interruption,
it creates a gentle sense of movement throughout the space.

The light that spreads across the center represents the mist that forms along the river—
an essential element in shaping the flavor of Uji tea.

It is not something clearly visible,
but rather a presence that seems to quietly fill the air.

The colors and forms of the seating are inspired by the ridges of tea fields and the changing seasons.

The softness of fresh greenery,
the depth of mature leaves,
and the warmth of the earth.

Even in the simple act of sitting,
we hope you can feel a connection to the rhythms of nature.

Despite being inside a busy station,
there is a sense here that the surrounding noise gently fades away.

A place where, even within the flow of people,
you can return to your own sense of time.

Perhaps it is something that quietly resonates with the atmosphere of Uji.

The tea retail area has also been redesigned with a minimal approach,
removing unnecessary elements so that each product can stand on its own.

This allows you to engage more directly with the tea itself.

And newly introduced in this space is our tasting counter.

Here, before choosing a product,
you can first encounter the tea itself.

Through conversation with our staff,
you can explore differences in flavor, brewing methods,
and the stories behind each tea.

It is not only a place to purchase,
but a place to discover a tea that feels right for you.

We hope this counter becomes the starting point of that experience.

A space is not just a backdrop—it shapes the time you spend within it.

Where you drink tea, and where you choose it,
can subtly change how it feels.

At our renewed Kyoto Store,
we hope you will experience a small glimpse of Uji’s scenery and sense of time.

And that each cup you enjoy here
will leave a quiet, lasting impression.
