Matcha Risotto Recipe — A Gentle, Flavorful Japanese Twist

This matcha risotto blends the mellow bitterness of Japanese green tea with savory broth and cheese, creating a soothing yet sophisticated bowl perfect for cozy evenings.

 Ingredients (Serves 2)
Cooked rice: 160g
Olive oil: 1 tbsp
Garlic (minced): 1 clove
Onion (minced): 1/4
White wine (optional): 50ml
Warm vegetable or chicken broth: 500ml
Matcha Standard: 1 tsp
Parmesan cheese (optional): 2 tbsp
Salt & black pepper: to taste
Butter (for finishing): 10g

 

 Instructions
1️⃣ Sauté the base
Heat olive oil in a pan and gently sauté garlic and onion until fragrant.

2️⃣ Deglaze with wine (optional)
Add white wine and simmer to reduce alcohol.

3️⃣ Add broth
Pour about 200ml of warm broth into the pan.

4️⃣ Add the rice
Add cooked rice and let it absorb the broth for about 5 minutes.

5️⃣ Finish with matcha, cheese & butter
Turn off the heat. Sift in the matcha, add cheese and butter, then stir well to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
