Today, we’re sharing a recipe for Matcha Sweet Potato Bites.
The natural sweetness of sweet potatoes meets the gentle bitterness of matcha, creating a festive treat perfect for holiday gatherings.

Recipe: Matcha Sweet Potato Bites

(Makes about 10 mini tart cups)

Ingredients
Sweet potatoes … 2 (about 500g, peeled to around 400g)
Milk … 150ml
Sugar … 70g
Unsalted butter (or vegetable oil) … 30g
Matcha Standard … 1 ½ tsp
Vanilla extract (optional) … a few drops
Tart cups, crackers, or biscuits (base) … 10
Decorations (silver dragees, powdered sugar, sprinkles) … as desired

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the sweet potatoes
Peel and slice into rounds, soak in water to remove bitterness.
Steam or microwave (600W, 5–6 min) until soft, then mash or strain until smooth.

2️⃣ Make the sweet potato mixture
While still warm, mix in sugar, butter, and milk.
When fully combined, sift in matcha powder and add vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.

3️⃣ Pipe into tart cups
Place the mixture in a piping bag with a star nozzle. Pipe into tart cups, creating a small Christmas tree shape.

4️⃣ Bake (optional)
For a shiny, lightly browned finish, bake at 200℃ (392°F) for 5–8 minutes.
You can also serve without baking—simply chill in the refrigerator to set the shape.

5️⃣ Decorate
Once cooled, sprinkle with powdered sugar, silver dragees, or colorful toppings to resemble festive Christmas trees.

✅ Tips for Success
Strain or mash sweet potatoes very smoothly for a clean piping shape.
Always sift the matcha to avoid lumps and ensure even color.
If the mixture is too thick, add a little more milk to soften.
Chilling helps stabilize the shape since no egg yolks are used.

🎨 Variations
Vegan-friendly: Replace milk with soy milk and butter with coconut oil.
Japanese twist: Hide a chestnut or a spoonful of sweet red bean paste inside.
Colorful options: Try purple sweet potato or pumpkin for a multi-colored holiday set.
