Why We Brew Tea Today
Hello everyone 😊
This is Keko from our online team.
October 1st is National Green Tea Day in Japan.
Every year when this day arrives, a quiet question comes to my mind:
Why do we brew tea today?
Perhaps it’s because we are thirsty.
Perhaps to pause and catch our breath.
Or simply because we have someone to share a moment with.
The reason is different for everyone.
Yet, I find tea to be a wonderful thing.
Even from the exact same brew, it creates entirely different moments depending on who drinks it and how they feel that day.
On a busy morning:
Placing tea leaves into the kyusu teapot, pouring warm water, and welcoming the start of a new day while taking in the rising aroma.
During a break from work:
Wrapping both hands around a warm teacup, gently letting go of the tension in your shoulders.
At dusk:
Gathering around the dinner table with family, sipping tea alongside gentle, everyday conversation.
None of these are extraordinary events.
Yet tea seems to subtly enrich these simple, quiet moments.
Nakamura Tokichi was founded in Uji, Kyoto in 1854.
We have been devoted to tea for over 170 years, and through all the changing times, one truth has remained unchanged:
Before tea is a beverage, it is a way of delivering a moment in time.
To brew a single delicious cup, there is the farmer who nurtures the tea plants.
There is the tea master who discerns the finest leaves.
There is the artisan who carefully fires and roasts them.
And finally, there is the person who brews that cup.
Countless hands overlap to bring one cup of tea to life.
That is why we cherish not only the tea itself, but also the moments that a single cup creates.
National Green Tea Day is a time to look back on the long history of Japanese tea.
But to me, it is even more a day to reflect on our reason for brewing tea today.
Some days we drink in a hurry; other days we savor it slowly.
Some days we drink alone; other days we share it with someone dear.
Every one of those moments is tea time.
Even if every day seems the same, today’s tea is a cup that exists only for today.
There is a unique meaning in brewing tea on this very day.
On this Japanese Tea Day, if you have just a little time today, why not take a moment to brew tea a bit more slowly than usual?
Using your favorite kyusu.
In your favorite teacup.
Or even with a simple tea bag.
Though the brewing methods may differ, the desire to enjoy tea remains the same.
May today bring you a cup that gently eases your heart.
And may that single cup become a moment that bridges softly into tomorrow.
