Urasenke Hounsai Sosho's favorite matcha. Matcha can be prepared in two ways: "usucha" (thin tea) and "koicha" (thick tea), each bringing out different charms of matcha. "Sho-no-Mukashi" is recommended for both usucha (thin tea) and koicha (thick tea).

it’s somewhat creamy, very light matcha but still has some flavor. Not too earthy, but with the right ratio we get a very decent matcha. Nothing complex. It’s a good light matcha, a little bitter and astringent but not unpleasant to drink it

Perfect for lattes

If you want a matcha that pairs perfectly with lattes, especially oat milk, TRUST ME, this is it. I'm so very sad it's out of stock but once it becomes available, you NEED to get your hands on it.

Earthy, Creamy, Dreamy.

I recently tried the Sho-no-Mukashi matcha from Nakamura Tokichi Honten, and it honestly surprised me in the best way. I’m not a matcha expert, but I do enjoy a good cup and this one felt really smooth, not too bitter, and had a clean, almost creamy finish.

The powder is super fine and mixes well when whisked, I didn’t need to fight clumps or anything. The taste is earthy but mellow, with just enough richness to feel like something special. It’s the kind of matcha you can enjoy slowly, without it feeling too strong or grassy.

I had it both on its own and as an iced matcha latte, and it worked great both ways. Definitely feels like a step up from the usual store-bought stuff without being intimidating.

If you enjoy matcha and want to try something a little more traditional without going too intense, this is a really nice pick.
