Sho-no-Mukashi is a matcha bearing a tea name bestowed according to the Okonomi of Hounsai Sosho of Urasenke.

In the Japanese tea tradition, matcha can be prepared in two primary styles: Usucha (thin tea) and Koicha (thick tea), each revealing different expressions of the same tea.
Sho-no-Mukashi is recommended for both.

It opens with soft, rounded umami and a gentle sweetness.
The flavor has depth and body, yet never feels heavy.
As it develops, a subtle bitterness emerges, bringing clarity and balance, leading into a clean, refreshing finish.

The harmony of umami, sweetness, and bitterness is exceptionally well composed, allowing the drinker to quietly enjoy the gradual transition of flavors within a single bowl.

My New Favorite Matcha

This matcha exceeded my expectations. The flavor is smooth, rich, and naturally sweet, with a wonderful umami character and almost no bitterness. I enjoyed it both as a traditional tea and as a latte. You can really taste the high quality and care that goes into producing it. I will definitely purchase it again and would highly recommend it to other matcha lovers.

I’ve tried almost every renowned and popular ceremonial matcha brand, such as Ippodo, Yamamasa Koyamaen, Kanbayashi Shunsho, Rocky’s, Kettl, and so on. However, Nakamura Tokichi stands out as the best matcha I’ve ever had. They consistently deliver exceptional quality and offer very reasonable prices compared to their competitors.

Great Service Great matcha

Having drank tea of all types my whole life I wasn’t ready for the difference “real matcha” makes. It is expensive but it absolutely is worth every penny.
